Frequently Asked Questions

What does my child need for their first dance class?

Visit our Dress Code page to view clothing, shoe, and hair requirements for each class. If you’re unable to purchase dance attire before your first class, dress your child in clothing that is comfy to move around in, have their hair up and out of their face, and have them either go barefoot or wear socks.

Am I allowed to watch my child’s dance class?

Audience members can watch dance class from the lobby, which has plenty of visibility into the dance room. Audience members are not permitted in the dance room during class unless requested by the teacher.

My child can’t come to class today. What should I do?

If you know your child won’t be able to make it to class (either on that day or in advance), log into your Parent Portal account to schedule an absence. Once you’ve submitted an absence, you will then be able to schedule a make-up class if you wish to do so. Make-up classes are not required.

My child is so excited for dance class, but then doesn’t want to participate when we get to the studio. Should we keep coming?

Warming up to dance class can take some time, especially for little ones who are new to a classroom experience. Being ready for dance class might look like participating in the entire class on their first day, giving their teacher a hug, or making new friends right away. It could also look like watching class for a day or two before joining in, participating in one part of class but not the rest, or interacting with the class props on the side of the dance floor without joining the class. Regardless, my priority is always that dancers feel safe and comfortable with the class and with me, allowing dancers to join class when they are ready and making them feel included, even if they aren’t ready to join in yet. I encourage folks to give their dancer an entire month to warm up to the class and to communicate with the teacher to help work towards a solution together.
